Chuck Final Season

Here we have the first promo for the 5th and final season of Chuck. The 13-episode season will tie up the loose ends and introduce some new villains (Mark Hamill!). It is still unlike the regular spy drama or nerd comedy, and that is why we love it so.

Comic-Con - Chuck

Have managed to find some videos of the Chuck Season 5 Comic Con panel. Bit of a bittersweet panel for Zachary Levi and co as it was their final panel for the show. The panel covers alot of things, everything that comes with a show entering its final season. They talk about where Chuck is without the Intersect, where Morgan is with it, how does the CIA factor into now they are working privately. Big news from the panel is that there may be a main cast death before the season is over and the casting of Mark Hamill as a villain for some part of the season.

Major Heroes Death?

There has been announcement that one of the original male cast of Heroes will be killed off this season. The question remains who?

Looking at the image above the original male cast was Peter, Nathan, Hiro, Mohinder, Noah, Parkman, Isaac and DL.

When it comes down to it Isaac, DL and Nathan are already gone - despite the fact that Adrian Pasdar remains as Sylar/Nathan Nathan himself is dead. Unless of course they bring him back to life with Claire's blood (something so terribly obvious that they did not do). So let's call Nathan an enigma and throw him into the category of unsolved mysteries.

That leaves Mohinder, Noah, Peter, Parkman and Hiro.

Mohinder is yet to appear in the 4th Season (6 episodes in) which is of interest, but also i they kill him i would not care purely based on his absence going on for so long and his character has fulfilled his original purpose. Parkman is an interesting character, but i would far prefer him to go bad (more bad-ass than his dad did) as opposed to being killed off. I have always said the characters that they will never kill are Peter, Hiro and Claire. But as we all know Hiro is dying aready, is this a case of Charlie in Lost? Build up his death so much that you do not expect it to happen, but it does anyway? I feel that it would result in a similar reaction to Charlie's passing (Lost) - people would actually care if the time traveller was knocked off.

Peter is essentially the main character in an ensemble cast. I do wish his character would regain his original power, whether or not he will remains unanswered. Peter has always been the jack of many trades, master of none. It would be a shame if they killed his character, leaving questions such as the scar unanswered. Yes i know that there is no assurance the scar will ever occur, but both alternate versions of Peter have had the scar. They both also had Peter's original power, opposed to the cheapened replacement. Who knows? I feel like the scar is inevitable, every time there is something that could plausibly give it to him it quirks my interest. He obviously has to gain it whilst lacking Claire's power. Let's see what happens.

Lastly, Noah. Possibly still one of the better characters it would be a shame to kill of the only member of the main cast who remains powerless. He provides a certain balance - knowing more than many empowered about their abilities, and yet having none.

I'm not going to provide a prediction as to which character is going to die. All i know is that the actor was suprised to find out - so that's always a good sign.

My New Face?

Could this be the new face of Scrubs?

Sources have hinted as such, that Kerry Bishe's role in the 9th Season of Scrubs will to provide narrative to a story that would be lost without it. Good news? Who knows. I am still undecided about how i feel about Scrubs continuing when it had such a beautiful ending (if not a few seasons late). I don't mind the idea of trying to transition the show into an ER type show with a continual changing cast, but isn't it 8 years too late to think of doing that? Veteran's Johnny C (Cox) and Donald Faison (Turk) are back, filling their roles as Chief of Medicine and Chief of Surgery respectively in what has been described as a 'Med School' - which is what the show will become. It makes sense, because that is what the show has always been about; teaching. But i do think that the absence of Carla will be something that they can't make up for through guest appearances. Even the shows recurring cast are in almost every episode *cough* Ted *cough* so i remain curious.

Zach Braff has confirmed he will be back for 6 episodes to assist with the transition, which in some ways disappoints me - they were all so ready to depart Scrubs and say goodbye and yet here they are. Neil Flynn (Janitor) has stated that he will not be returning, for his part Scrubs is done - though he did say he may appear to give closure to his character. I am at a loss, i don't know whether to watch it or not - i loved scrubs and i loved the ending, but i just don't know where it's going. There was talk of rebranding the show (Scrubs: Med School) but ABC clamped down on that saying that the name was 'a badge' (ala. the show wouldn't survive without the name and therefore ABC would have wasted their time and money, couldn't have that).

It just.. uh... frustrating.

nb. I jsut read that they're also not filming at the hospital??? WHAT THE HELL? You can't change the setting for the show, that was part of the essence of the show. Damn people. Let things die when they're supposed to.

Chuck Me!!

NBC finally announced their decision about the future of Chuck yesterday and the answer to that question is more Chuck! NBC ordered a 13 episode season, with a lower production budget which undoubtedly means an end to the big guest stars that the show has on previously ala. Chevy Chase (hopefully doesn’t include Scott Bakula!). But this is all good news as far as I am concerned – the show has much more to offer and hopefully the 3rd season will deliver to the usual high standard and more people will become interested in the show *fingers crossed*

Chuck

Chuck is a magnificent series that started airing in 2008 from Josh Schwartz [creator of The O.C].

The season finale of the 2nd Season will next week and unfortunately it is looking like it may possibly also be a series finale, with NBC yet to announce its renewal for a 3rd season. This is incredibly unfortunate because there is not another show quite like this one, which may be a reason why there has been hesitation on its renewal. A good sign is the fact that NBC originally only ordered 13 episodes for the 2nd season, they later ordered another 9 leaving the show with a full 22 episode season.

Josh Schwartz has obviously considered the possibility that there may be no more Chuck as of next week and has keyed the season finale towards a series finale as well – which is good and I have no doubt that if renewed for another season the show will take a different path than it has previously, but remain true to its essence. Looking at the promo for the episode however does make it seem as though there may still be a cliffhanger - an unfortunate move if the show is cancelled, but also fantastic for the beginning of the 3rd season [if there is one].



This week’s episode “Chuck vs the Colonel” was another great episode which furthered the storyline to a point that the show could possibly end satisfactorily with the next episode; depending on what occurs in the final episode of course. The chemistry between the actors on the show is awesome, you really do feel the emotions that they are battling with; in particular Chuck in regards to Sarah, Sarah in regards to Chuck and Casey in regards to all of the cast.

I particularly like the evolution of Casey throughout the series. At the beginning he was a soldier. Full stop. Country first, no time for friends – but a fierce sense of right and wrong coupled with loyalty to his comrades [‘semper fi’].
He was unprepared for the affect that Chuck would have on his character, softening him to the point that he is almost forced to admit that yes, Chuck is his friend. He keeps everyone at a distance for a fear of becoming too personally involved with the asset [Chuck], but when it comes down to a matter of his given word [a promise to be kept] vs the US Government, he will keep his word and in the case of this episode – go against a direct order. As long as it is in his country’s best interests.

I will be disappointed if the show gets cancelled, but at the same time I have seen so many shows that I love go for too long and have a slump in the middle for 3 or so years before picking themselves up for the final season. Scrubs springs to mind [Slump Seasons 4 -6], as does Lost [Slump Seasons 2-3], Heroes [Slump Season 2], That 70s Show [Slump Season 8], Family Guy [Slump Season – anything after Season 3], Smallville [Slump Season 5 -7, 8 has been half and half], Stargate SG-1 [9-10].

You can relate it to Joss Whedon’s Firefly; great series, perhaps too short – but with the film to close off that last storyline it ended completely.
